  • WHAT IS KIRUNA’S CLIMATE LIKE?
    The winters are long, cold and white. Usually with lot's of snow and because Kiruna is located so high up north, in the winter it stays dark all day long. Temperatures here can get as low as -45c. The summers are usually not very warm, but some years it can go up to +30c. On average it will be around +18c.
  • ARE THERE ANY POISONOUS/DANGEROUS ANIMALS IN KIRUNA?
    There are no poisonous animals in Kiruna. There are predators in north Sweden though, such as bear, wolves and lynx. However, in Kiruna you don't have to worry that you will run into one of them.
  • IS IT SAFE TO DRINK THE WATER?
    The tap water and natural water in Kiruna are one of the cleanest waters you can find anywhere. Drinking from the tap here is very safe. So safe in fact, that it is very hard to find flat bottled water in the stores. Most water here is sold sparkling.
  • WHAT IS THE VOLTAGE OF ELECTRICITY SUPPLY?DO I NEED TO TAKE A CONVERTER?
    The outlets here supply 230 volts, so no converter is needed. All though you might bring a converter if you are from a country that doesn't use the European plug.
  • WHAT LANGUAGES ARE SPOKEN IN SWEDEN?
    In Sweden there are two main languages that are spoken; Swedish and Sami. Swedish is spoken almost everywhere. Sami is spoken by the native Swedish people, the aboriginals of Sweden if you will. But don't worry, Swedish people speak English very well.
  • WHAT ARE THE OPENING HOURS OF SHOPS AND STORES?
    Most shops are open from 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM. Some grocery stores are open until 11:00 PM.
  • ARE THERE LEFT BAGGAGE SERVICES AVAILABLE AT THE AIRPORT?
    Yes, there are. There is also another option at the tourist information center.
  • WHAT IS THE CAPITAL OF SWEDEN?
    Stockholm.
